And you never know, it might just make you have a little bit more sympathy for your real local government and all the things they have to deal with. But watch out for natural disasters and your own frustrated citizens they’ll really take a toll on your tax base. Not enough things for the kids to do? Throw in an amusement park. Got traffic jams? Make more, wider roads. You’ll get to build your own virtual cities the way you want to. I find it an effort to get away from min/maxxing but some of the better looking layouts are fairly low density and showcase the low and mid range buildings rather than 'scrapers. If you’re tired of bad city planning, then maybe today’s Daily Deal, SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition, will help reduce some of the frustration. Start by aiming to use different transport types (I assume you have NAM mod) - working around rail stations (or mountains) can help to break up a regular grid pattern and encourage more inventive layouts. Your original question about making it look pretty - I tend towards grids too. You could play another area on Hard settings - you start with less money and have to work a bit harder to attract people into the city. A more rural (low or medium density) area is another approach. Particularly if you are going for maximum density. However, there does come a point where income outweighs expenditure and there isn't much you can do about that. In conjunction with this - getting as much population to be wealthy as possible. The maintenance on schools and hospitals can add up. :) it being open ended there is no "should".īut getting health and education up to maximum and raising land value are possible aims. It's incomplete though, and I didn't take another screenshot before I started zoning, but I still feel it shows quite well how import decent traffic system is, and it's quite dull in vanilla SimCity (all of the them, not just 4 or 5). This is a roadsystem I build last night in preparation for a new resendential city. The only truly essential mod is NAM, be ware though that learning how to build highways properly will probably take you as much time as the rest of the game put together. I personally like the ones that implement real life building (for example, I have the Nvidia Headquarters-building, McDonalds, Electon, Toyota Dealer, IKEA) because it makes the city feel more real, as the city is otherwise somewhat void of commercial (which a real life city would never be). It makes the city slightly less realistic though, so you might not want it. I also like the Garbage Chute, because it's otherwise extremely hard to deal with garbage without getting a great deal of pollution. Personally, I feel that NAM is the absolutely most essential one, as it's pretty much a revamp of the traffic simulation. There was a thread about it a few months ago, and there's a new topic once in a while as well.
